This book is based on a true story, set in the abject poverty of Cambodia against the backdrop of political oppression and the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge. It is based on Sang Ly and her husband Ki Liam who live in Stung Meanchey, the largest municipal waste dump in Cambodia as they desperately try to find a cure for their chronically ill son, Nisan.
