OUR RABBI

Rabbi Ruth Gelfarb

Rabbi Ruth Gelfarb (Rabbi Ruthie) has been serving SOS since 2015. When not in Summit County, Rabbi Ruthie Gelfarb serves Congregation Har Hashem. Rabbi Gelfarb also serves as the President of Haver: Boulders Rabbinic Fellowship.

Rabbi Ruth Gelfarb has a B.A. with honors from Harvard College and received Rabbinic Ordination from HUC – JIR. While at HUC-JIR, Rabbi Ruthie received the Stephen Pierce award for counseling excellency and Martin Cohen Award for Excellence in History. Rabbi Gelfarb is also certified by the Institute for Jewish Spirituality as Jewish Mindfulness Meditation Teacher.

A committed social justice activist and master educator, Rabbi Gelfarb has served as the Senior Jewish Educator at the University of Chicago Hillel, as the Director of Service at American Jewish World Service (Ghana, Thailand, El Salvador), Program Director at the Chicago Foundation for Women.

Her training includes pastoral work as a chaplain with the U.S. Navy, as well as with Congregation Beth Simchat Torah, the world’s largest synagogue for LGBTQ Jews and their families.

Rabbi Gelfarb lives in Boulder, CO with her husband Tom Hopson, who is an atmospheric scientist.
