Synagogue of the Summit

Join us as we Dance and Sing to welcome our New Torah to its home in Summit County. Enjoy a light lunch as we teach the dances and songs. Then as Tradition prescribes we will have 7 Hakafot (to circle) around the Torah under the Chuppah in the Pavilion with Music and Song, then proceed outside to parade over the river and down the recreation path to share our Joy with the community. Refreshments will be served upon our return to the Pavilion.

The Interfaith Council, of which SOS is a member, is sponsoring twice monthly non-religious meditation sits at the Senior Center in Frisco. Coming together for shared meditation among different faiths and spiritual practices can build bonds and promote dialogue among people of different traditions. In addition, shared practices can be a way to educate ourselves and broaden our understanding of other spiritually based organizations. All of these things can benefit not only individuals involved, but the whole community. Rebecca Warshawsky of SOS, along with Diane Ryan and Pat McShane will alternate the meditations.

Maxine and Marty will be leading everyones’ favorite hike/service up Shrine Mountain on Saturday, July 30 at 8:30AM. Please be certain to register so we know who to wait for. We will wait in the parking lot until 8:45 and then leave for the trail head. Maxine will bring challah, wine, and brownies for all. Hikers should bring enough water for the hike, rain gear, bug spray!! And any other snacks they want etc. we will gather for a short service at the top. Dogs are welcome. The trail is considered moderate but gets steep in places. It is approximately 4.5 miles up and back. If you haven’t been, it is one of the best hikes for wild flowers and scenery anywhere but it is very popular so parking can be challenging. Please consider carpooling if possible.
