Passover Food Drive Drop Off & Haggadah/Matzah Pick Up

Wednesday, March 24, 2021 11 Nisan 5781

12:00 PM - 1:00 PMDillon Community Church, Dillon, CO

This Passover the Social Action Committee will be collecting nonperishable foods for the Dillon Community Church Food Pantry. As ridding your home of Chametz at Passover is traditional we thought we’d put this practice to good use for the community.

So what is Chametz and why are we supposed to get rid of it? Chametz is anything that is leavened and considered impure because it has fermented or soured. The word Chametz literally means “sour”. Matza was used in the sacrificial system of the Temple as offerings had to be absolutely pure and therefore anything leavened was not pure. Matza – unleavened bread – was a symbol of purity.

From Biblical times onward, the law required that every bit of leavened bread and all materials and products associated with it (that is, chametz) be removed from the house before Passover.
So we thought we’d take this opportunity to symbolically rid our homes of Chametz and help the community with much needed food.

So please help us with this effort by gathering nonperishable items for a drop off at the Dillon Community Church (as we did at the High Holy Days) Wednesday, March 24th at noon.

At this time we will be giving out Matzah and Haggadot so you can enjoy the Second Seder with Rabbi Ruthie!
